About Suzanne

I am a licensed therapist providing mental health services in New York and Connecticut. My work has always been rooted in a deep curiosity about how people learn, heal, and transform — both as individuals and within broader social systems.

That curiosity first led me to Jonathan Kozol's writing on educational inequity, and ultimately to an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Boston University. After teaching in Boston and Bedford Stuyvesant, I recognized that the most meaningful change often begin within — and turned my focus toward psychology and clinical practice.

I hold a Master's degree in Developmental Psychology from Sarah Lawrence College and a Master's degree in Social Work from New York University (2010). Over the course of my career, I have worked across residential, outpatient, university, and private practice settings. My clinical experience spans foster care and adoption services, program development, academic and stress support for medical students, and a wide range of individual mental health challenges.

My practice currently specializes in the treatment of OCD, anxiety, and trauma. I approach this work through a cognitive-behavioral framework, with formal training in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT/ERP) and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) — an evidence-based model particularly effective in treating OCD. In addition to these approaches, I draw from DBT, ACT, EFIT, mindfulness-based practices, IFS-informed therapy, and compassion-based approaches, tailoring treatment to best meet each client's individual needs.

I offer free 15 minute initial consultations. Please email me at info@suzannekaphan.com or call/text 203-312-7632.
